Five new poems from Sushant Thapa

Reflection of Life

What is a reflection of life?
Is it a close look
At how you have lived?
Or your strategy to outlive time?

Is it how you were
In your prime?
Or how safe you were
After you committed any
Slight crime?

Life is a thin slice of time.
You can savor it before
It ripens a lot,
And you have to
Keep it aside

Leftovers in excess
Plans of success
All make life rush

Rust is a disease
Rush is a speed
Disease and speed
Both kill

Sustain the speed
Wisely work before you rust.

Building of a New Heart

I can fill my art
With all my colors

I can choose what I like
It will make me devote my time

Hours shall pass
Seasons shall age

I will be a fog
Will be a light that shows its way through

One more wooden art
One more surviving dart

Meet me by the edge
I shall kiss the corner of your eye
To see what you see
Entirely in proper frames,
That I call reality

It is the compound of barricaded mystery
Or the landscape of freedom

It first begins with love
As a treasure to pass

How come you are new
To the building of a new heart?

Living exhausts the life
But hope keeps beating.

Withstanding the Wind

I walk a bit slower,
Take what I have overlooked

Feel the love like the first kiss

Miss the love like
A departed bird
That left the wetland

Sand and your name
Playfulness on the shore

It is a lore of bliss
That love was once
A hand-woven heart

A bar is full of quiet,
Music of silence
Ruffles the memory sheet

I, me, us
Together in the universe

Late night sky
Starry flights of desire,

A little pocket of memory
What is left in love
Is a candle withstanding
The wind.

Life’s Task

Taking up the stream water
In my hand,
I see my reflection.
Lyrical and emotive I cry
In happiness divine.
Recollection of childhood time
An hour of discovery
In the woods where I could hear
The leaves rustle beneath my feet.
Bird on the tree
A pearl of water on the iron rod
Rain is a memory
Life is a game on stage
A jamming band
Saxophone and sound,
Flat and dull market
Too many a crowd
Make deafness a lore,
Heard but not listened.
Life’s task is a journey
I began as a footsteps of my first walk
With childhood giggles
A buddha’s statue
A glorified heart
Covered with recollections.
A smiling legacy of simplicity
Of keeping the crown
On the ground
In mud we flower
In mud we play.

The Morning

It is early morning
Little rays of sun
Arrive in chariots
And become prayer chants,
For waking up.
A faith rises from my bed,
Conch Shell blows in a distance
This awakening is a slow revelation.
The morning is the smell of
Brewed coffee,
A modern cafe going metro
Passing by.
Newspaper in hands,
The world arrives,
Like guns and roses,
Guns for news of violence
And roses for hopeful healing.
The healing
Pulls the world a little closer
And a new tomorrow arises
In a same fashion
Every day.
