Division’s Lessons by Marcie Eanes

How many ways
do we divide ourselves from each other?
Race, gender, age,
height, weight, sexual preference
Standard divisions
for basic prejudice.
Politics, religion, profession
income, residence, more
The next wall

Only the human mind devises
intricate subdivisions
Until we all resemble
tiny squares on graph paper.
Propelling dark emotions
and desperate actions

Divided Us
can heal
with honest talk,
deep listening
before life irreparably worsens
Into permanent seperate and unequal reality.
